VETERANS GET NEW BENEFITS

ANNAPOLIS, MD- Veterans of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan will be recieving a full ride to

college as a result of the passing of the Post 9/11 Veterans Education Assistance Act on August 1st 2009.

"It would provide every veteran with a real chance to afford a college education, and it would not harm retention" said President Barack Obama at a speech in Charleston, West Virginia in May of 2008.

The new bill, signed into law by former President George W. Bush on July 30th 2008, pays for not only the full cost of tuition, but also pays a monthly stipend for living expenses and books.

This new bill is replacing the outdated Montgomery G.I. Bill, which has been in place since the end of World War Two.

"I'm definitely not as stressed as I would be without the new G.I. Bill" said Cpl. Douglass Jackson, a U.S. Marine who will be seperating from the military within the year.

Veterans are seeing this bill as a foundation on which to build thier lives after getting out of the military.
